Jabber/XMPP is an open and extensible set of protocols for instant messaging and presence framework.
Jabber is to XMPP:
- what the web is to HTTP,
- what the e-mail is to SMTP/POP/IMAP.
Jabber is the set of applications based on the set of XMPP protocols.
XMPP is an open standard developped by the XMPP Standards Foundation, and normalized by the IETF.
Jabber covers a full range of applications:
